Delve Audio Update - 3
Delve » Devlog
This sprint was mainly focused on implementing solutions to technical debt and beginning the process for sound development within the game. As Lead Audio Engineer for this project, I have been in charge of implementing sound effects into the game. These included sound effects for the guns, the player, and even the laser beam.
Some major things that I learned during this project's first development phase are:
- WebGL builds don't work well with .wav files and instead require .mp3 files. The wrong file type can lead to many issues with the sound.
- Copyright free sounds are helpful, but often require fine-tuning to match the aesthetic of your game.
- Utilizing an equalizer and other post processing effects can take a recording and make it sound professionally made.
- Layering within a single audio recording can help balance any mistakes within the recording itself.
I really enjoyed creating the sound effects for this sprint, and I am excited to continue. I still have a lot to learn about sound design, but I have been having a blast learning and exploring the craft.
