Split UI Update - 3


This update overhauled the UI for the game making it look nicer than the previous version's, as well as adding more functionality like a settings, credits, and developer notes menu. With the addition of the new UI, some parts were added that currently do not have functionality. These sections include:

  • Mobile and Console Support
  • Gameplay Settings Menu
  • Video Settings Menu
  • Save and Load Menus
  • Audio Text Volume

The next sprint will work on getting functionality for the first listed section, and the following sprints will include each other section in the order they are added to the backlog.

The other main updates for this sprint are that the main character is drawn slightly more stylized than the previous version and that the character can now continue to switch emotions in the essences of emotion, instead of only being able to switch to one emotion and never switch back. This fix allows for the strategic-switching dynamic of the game feel more natural because the player can control when they switch emotions, rather than hunting down specific spots marked only for joy, rage, sadness, and fear. Because of the change, the essences of emotion also needed new artwork, which was added as well. A final version of the character is still being developed, but as my drawing and animation skills improve, I will add more art/animations into the game. The final change for this update was re-mapping some controls for the game for PC. Having the player's abilities be linked to the mouse was causing issues with the UI functionality, and it was difficult for some to play while using laptop trackpads, I decided to switch to keys again, with the option of either pressing number keys or letter keys to use the abilities. The new controls are in the controls menu, so the switch should hopefully be seamless.
